I grew up in South Gloucestershire and when not wielding a soldering iron to build my latest electronic project, enjoyed messing about with all things mechanical, including building a go-kart powered by a 50cc moped engine.
I graduated in 1987 with a 2.1 in Electronic Engineering. During my student years I enjoyed being a relief milkman for a local family-owned dairy – having the newest van on the fleet I quite possibly was the fastest milkman in the west! After two years of permanent employment I took the plunge and became a freelance software engineer. For over 36 years I have provided consultancy to the likes of Lloyd's Registry of Shipping, ABB, NATS, Thales and RWE npower, as well as other numerous smaller companies.
In May 2010 Mrs. M and I moved aboard our yacht to become a full time ‘liveaboards’ and set sail for the Ionian, Greece. In the three years it took us to get there I continued to work remotely very successfully, with communication via Wi-Fi and 3G dongles posing no problems.
Having reached our target destination in 2013, we spent a further two years cruising local waters, with me doing some skippering and basic sailing tuition and we started Ionian Webworks, providing professional, creative website solutions for businesses in the Ionian and the UK. I also wrote a number of articles for sailing magazines.
In spring 2015 we decided to base ourselves back on land in the UK to resume my freelance career. In 2018 we moved to Cornwall, bought a plot of land and had a house built.
Since then I have specialised in Zoho CRM & Inventory integrations, connecting clients' CRM systems to pretty much anything & everything, thus adding efficiency to their business processes.
In 2022 I started to work with Kat and earlier this year we launched The Integration Station.
When not writing software I enjoy cooking, good food & wine and travelling, and have often combined these interests, notably on driving holidays to Italy, in an Alfa Romeo of course! When not behind the wheel of a car or boat I enjoy walking, probably as a result of my childhood spent in and around the Cotswolds, and gardening, notably growing our own fruit & veg.
I’ve been coding since I was eight years old, happily tinkering away on an Acorn Electron, and I’ve been building websites since the early 2000s. After a career spanning marketing, the food industry (ask me about melons - I know more than you’d think), and running my own yoga studio, I eventually reverted to my first love: writing code.
After rebuilding my yoga studio website in WordPress during lockdown, I decided to embark on a diploma in full stack software development in 2021. I graduated in 2022 and immediately started work at the same company where Andy was doing contract work. Andy became my mentor, and we quickly realised that we had a shared love of old cars. A perfect business partnership was born and we founded The Integration Station in 2025.
Alongside my work at The Integration Station, I’m also the founder of Great Malvern Yoga, where I’ve been teaching for over a decade. I’ve come to believe that software and yoga have something in common: both require balance, flexibility, and the occasional deep breath when things don’t go to plan.
When I’m not coding or teaching, you’ll usually find me walking in the Malvern Hills, attempting to tame my vegetable patch, renovating my house, fussing over my cats, playing The Sims 4, or tinkering with my old Jaguar. I also speak French and Spanish, which occasionally comes in handy when debugging error messages that sound like they’ve been auto-translated!
